O'Neil She was in her high-school times during the auditions, tried out in the 3rd season of Canadian Idol in the beginning of 2005. The contestant was able to climb into the top 100 because of the judges' excitement in her performances. O'Neil was praised by the judges. However, she was a major loser in the top 10 Week and Top 9 Week of the Finals. The judges were shocked by the results and advised the viewers to vote for contestants like Melissa with the strongest singing skills. With consistently excellent performances throughout the contest, O'Neil never again finished among the bottom three. The judge Werner predicted, after two other breathtaking performances, that O'Neil would win of the Canadian Idol competition, as well as the first woman and youngest in show history after the 7th September Finals of 2005. O'Neil was contacted immediately from Canadian PM Paul Martin, congratulating on her triumph on Canadian Idol.
